Statistical Consulting, Programming, and Data Analysis
We provide programming and data analysis support performed by senior programmers and analysts with biostatistical training. Our strengths include data editing and variable creation; inclusion of technical databases, such as medical conditions, diet, medications, and environmental and occupational exposures; statistical analysis, primarily in SAS; and writing analytic reports on the findings.
Programming and analysis begin with the data design and editing process based on our knowledge of the requirements essential to analysis. We typically begin analysis of the clean data by constructing SAS-based analysis files, and after initial weighting and a review of frequencies and statistics, we perform indicated updates and create a revised analysis file. As required, we compute preliminary standard error estimates and chi-square results, usually with SUDAAN. Initial tabulations and frequencies are reviewed with the client to plan the future course of analysis. When appropriate, we conduct further multivariate analysis, such as ANOVA, logistic regression, and discriminate analysis. For examples of studies in which we have provided primary programming and analysis, see Uterine Fibroids: Risk Factors for Uterine Leiomyomas and ALS: Role of Environmental Neurotoxins in the Etiology of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
