Epidemiology

Social & Scientific Systems provides full-service epidemiologic research for our clients to increase understanding of the causes and patterns of disease. We have been designing, conducting, and analyzing epidemiologic studies for domestic and international collaborators for a number of years. Service to our clients is paramount and our research principles are to provide effective solutions, ensure ethical standards in the conduct of research, and produce consistent and reliable results.

We have provided support services to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Epidemiology Branch since 1994. We currently manage projects under two contracts—the Support Services Contract and the Sister Study. Other Federal Government and university clients include the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), the National Institute on Aging (NIA), the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), the Johns Hopkins University, Duke University, and the University of Pennsylvania.

Our breadth of experience includes study design and management, collecting data using a variety of methods, recruitment and retention of study cohorts, expertise in biologic and environmental specimen collection, providing statistical analysis, and conducting projects in a variety of settings and modalities, including studies in languages other than English in the United States and studies in other countries.
