Portfolio Management System for the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)
Social & Scientific Systems' staff created a portfolio management system at the request of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) to track and manage HIV microbicide compounds. We developed the Microbicide Research and Development Portfolio (MRDP) database, which includes a preclinical portion designed to collect efficacy and toxicity data in defined units and standardized formats for comparative and evaluative analyses across compounds, classes of compounds, assays, and studies. The comparative reporting capability of the database serves as a valuable tool for program staff in determining whether to support a microbicide or class of microbicides for further product development or expedited licensure. A clinical portion of the database can capture protocol descriptors, assays, procedures and methodologies, adverse events reported, and efficacy data as published in the literature. The efficacy section addresses effect on HIV transmission prevention as well as prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and prevention of pregnancy.
